Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Mistwalker studio announced today that Terra Battle 2 has launched for iOS and Android in the U.S. and Japan. The free-to-play role-playing game is also coming out for PC at an unspecified date.
The original Terra Battle came out in 2014. It has reach over 2.7 million downloads. Many of those downloads came from Japan, where Terra Battle was at its peak shortly after its launch as the No. 6-ranked game in the iOS App Store, according to mobile analyst firm App Annie. It peaked at No. 42 in the U.S.
Gamers best know Hironobu Sakaguchi as the father of the Final Fantasy franchise, but he left Square Enix and founded Mistwalker in 2004. The studio created console RPGs like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon before shifting its focus to mobile titles, reflecting the change in its home audience in Japan.
Mistwalker is also working on Terra Wars, another mobile/PC role-playing game. It will used clay-based visuals.
