The “one more thing” at this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live was a surprise reveal from Chinese studio Game Science. The developer revealed its next game, and a follow-up to its 2024 title Black Myth: Wukong, called Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The new game, like its predecessor, will be an action-RPG developed in Unreal Engine 5.

According to what little information Game Science has thus far put out, the game is going to follow the story of Zhong Kui, a vanquisher of evil in East Asian myth. The studio describes the game thus: “The game will deliver distinctive experiences and gameplay features that push our limits, while also bringing fresh ideas and necessary changes to address past flaws and regrets.”

The trailer doesn’t reveal any details, except to show Zhong Kui riding his tiger, as he is depicted in classical artwork. The devs imply that this game will feel different to The Destined One’s adventure in Black Myth: Wukong, and they’re still experimenting with the differences between the two titles.

Despite how little there actually is of the game, Game Science says on its official site that it’s dedicated to updating gamers on its current doings every year on August 20. They add, “However, with the project being little more than an empty folder at this stage, there’s hardly any game footage we could share… looks like we’re not even done with the outline yet.” They add that gamers should “let us impress ourselves first before we serve it to you.”
