Wizards of the Coast has brought Dungeons & Dragons to Fortnite for the first time through a new collaboration with top Fortnite creators Chartis and Teravision Games, the company announced yesterday.
The initiative launches five fan-made Fortnite Islands (game worlds) built using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), Epic Games’ creator toolset that allows studios and community developers to design full-scale experiences inside Fortnite.
The islands are inspired by iconic D&D locations, monsters, and gameplay styles, and span multiple genres including PvP, platforming, social hubs, boss fights, and large-scale cooperative play.
The collaboration reflects Wizards of the Coast’s growing interest in experimenting with creator platforms and UGC ecosystems as a way to expand the reach of Dungeons & Dragons beyond tabletop and traditional video games. Right now, D&D as a brand is arguably the most popular it has ever been in its history, and a lot of that is due to smart, topical and relevant collaborations.
I ventured into all five game worlds yesterday alongside my son and had a blast identifying key landmarks and locales, feeding him bits of lore and context. Specifically, visiting the Yawning Portal tavern as Zoey from “KPop Demon Hunters” was not something I ever expected to do.
The five Fortnite Islands were developed as part of a “launch and learn” initiative, allowing Wizards of the Coast to test how D&D’s themes and mechanics translate inside Fortnite’s massive player ecosystem. There’s a great variety on display here and a lot of potential for an eventual, more robust, full-fledged RPG of some sort. Something similar to Dungeonauts, from Bungie co-founder Alex Seropian’s Look North World, could be a great licensing target.
Each of the five game worlds takes place in D&D’s most iconic setting, the Forgotten Realms, and across the islands, you can visit the Yawning Portal tavern, the Spine of the World mountains, and Mount Hotenow. The experiences also feature classic D&D enemies such as Klauth, the ancient red dragon, and necromancer Valindra Shadowmantle, reimagined within Fortnite’s visual and gameplay framework.
Valindra is a famous villain often associated with the region surrounding the city of Neverwinter and is a primary antagonist of the Neverwinter MMO from Cryptic Studios.

The islands are available now via individual island codes, allowing Fortnite players to jump directly into each experience without leaving the platform:
- DnD Boxfights – 1190-4691-0255
- DnD Treasure RNG – 4958-2624-5634
- DnD Dungeon Deathrun – 5806-6430-0158
- DnD Bossfight – 2218-1049-5866
- DnD Zombie Dragon Adventure (early access) – 2525-9596-3235
The Fortnite collaboration represents more than a one-off crossover. It signals a broader strategy around creator-led experimentation, licensing, and audience expansion within UGC-driven platforms.
“We’re bringing the spirit of D&D homebrew to Fortnite — supporting creators, experimenting in new mediums, and learning how we can introduce D&D to new players,” said Nick Strann, Franchise Strategy Director for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS at Wizards of the Coast, in a prepared statement. “D&D already means so much to all those who have joined us at the table, and we hope that we can make it just as meaningful for millions of Fortnite fans. We very much look forward to hearing player feedback on these creator-made islands and using that feedback to shape future adventures wherever people love D&D.”
The collaboration also highlights Fortnite’s continued evolution into a platform for major entertainment IPs. Through UEFN, Epic has positioned Fortnite as a destination not just for gameplay, but for branded worlds, narrative experiments, and large-scale cooperative experiences built by both professional studios and community creators.
