The Jellynauts are back and they’re invading Candy Crush Saga.

Spooky Season, Candy Crush Saga’s annual Halloween event, returns this morning, alongside the returns of a handful of fan-favorite characters, now overrunning Candy Town. This year’s season is the first with a fully themed lineup, according to a press release from Candy Crush. The new Halloween lineup includes a new Spooky Season Expedition, collectible Seasonal Pins, a three-stage tournament, and a Spooky Season Pass. Spooky Season is set to run from October 12 through November 8, bringing players Halloween themed enjoyment all through the season.

Candy Crush Saga is the match-three puzzle game from King, and Spooky Season is its annual Halloween-themed season. The game’s annual Spooky Season event pairs a limited-time story with new additional gameplay elements, in this case the Jellynaut blockers and jelly repellers are added to the board.

The Jellynauts have been brought back for a brand new Saga Adventure, according to the press release, and the Spooky Season Expedition is where the story is set to unfold. In the expedition’s framing, a swarm of ravenous Jellynauts has overrun Candy Town, and players are asked to rescue a trapped friend in each Expedition level. Toward the end of the expedition, players fight off the Jellynauts in a final showdown to save Mr Toffee. Once he is saved, Mr Toffee fires up his anti-Jellynaut sprayer, and the player assists him in driving the invaders out.

Each Expedition level centers on the same goal: freeing a trapped friend from the Jellynauts. The Expedition then builds toward a final showdown to save Mr Toffee, according to the Candy Crush press announcement.

The Jellynauts also change how the original Candy Crush board plays. They appear as new blockers, while gumball machines become glowing green jelly repellers.

The season’s tournament has three stages. Qualifiers start October 22, ten days after the season begins, followed by Knockouts on October 27 and Finals on October 31. The Finals land on Halloween itself, eight days before the season ends. Throughout the tournament, players collect Striped Candies to take down the Jellynauts and win Gold Bars. It is the competitive part of the season, with the Jellynauts as the opponents players must defeat.

Players can also earn rewards through Spooky Season Pass milestones and Seasonal Pins. The game’s announcement describes the pass as “filled with tricks and treats for all players,” but it does not detail the rewards at each milestone or say what the pass costs.

Taken together, the Expedition, the tournament, the pass and the pins give players four ways to take part in the Halloween season. Spooky Season is live in Candy Crush Saga from October 12 through November 8, a run of nearly four weeks. More information is available at candycrush.com.
