Unity and Epic Games are fierce competitors in the game engine business. But it seems there is some room for peaceful coexistence.
On Halloween, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted that Unity should bring its payment software development kit (SDK) to Unreal Engine and the Godot open source game engine as well.
Matthew Bromberg, CEO of Unity, replied, “We’d love to bring payments to Unreal Engine. Let’s do it.”

Sweeney paved the path for Unity’s payments SDK, which helps game companies set up alternative payments to platforms such as Google and Apple, by engaging in five years of antitrust litigation with the big app platforms.

Now that Epic has won many legal points in the U.S., developers can promote alternative web shops and payments from within their own apps on the Apple and Google app store apps for the first time.
