Unless you’re a grand master carpenter, making your own arcade cabinet is a daunting task. Still, MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) has given many people the reason and inspiration to build their own arcade units. This way, they can have hundreds (or even thousands) of classic games ready to be enjoyed the way they were intended to be played. A man named Doug Haffner has taken it to a whole new level, though. Behold, the Monster Arcade [via Technabob]:

Mr. Haffner used a CarveWright carving machine for the pictures of Frankenstein (an image originally created by special effects god Rick Baker) and a CNC carving machine for some of the more intricate work. The results are amazing. He also used green and blue LED lights, has vintage meters on the control panel, and an old-style log book to hide the power switch.
We love arcade games as much as the next guy, but wouldn’t something like this take forever to make? For normal joes, maybe, but Mr. Haffner states on his blog that this is a project he’s been working on for a couple of weeks! Wonder if he does any kitchen or bathroom work, too — we’ve always wanted a steampunk crapper that also plays Bubble Bobble.
More pictures of this masterpiece after the jump.
