Mobile games and the Nintendo Switch 2 have helped push July’s numbers into the positives, according to industry-tracking firm Circana. While there were several PC and console games that performed well, even reaching to the top of the month’s sales charts, it was reportedly the mobile market that kept the game sales numbers largely in the green for the month.

“Monthly hardware spending grew 21% when compared to a year ago, to $384M,” said Mat Piscatella, Circana’s executive producer for games reports. “This is the highest hardware spending in a July month since the $441M achieved in July 2008.” The Nintendo Switch 2 is the best-selling piece of hardware in units and dollars, both in July and for the year overall.

On the best-selling games chart for PC and console, EA Sports College Football 26 and the MVP Bundle made the top of the list. On the mobile charts, Sensor Tower reports that Garena’s Free Fire has experienced a meteorite rise in popularity in the last year, having jumped seven places and becoming the top shooter in the U.S., thanks in part to a collaboration with Naruto Shippuden.

Electronic Arts and Microsoft dominated the top ten games on the best-sellers charts. EA Sports College Football 26 is the big-ticket item for the month, just as the 25th edition was the best-seller for last July. The EA Sports MVP Bundle for the year, which pairs College Football 26 with Madden 26, also joins the list just as last year’s bundle did. The two join their EA Sports siblings, FC 25 and F1 25, on the list.

Donkey Kong Bananza takes the third place on the list, and likely would have placed higher if Circana had access to its digital sales count — Nintendo doesn’t provide that information to the firm. It’s also the best-selling game on Switch consoles.

Microsoft brings the other two new games, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 and Grounded, to the list. Pro Skater 3+4 was a best-selling game on all three consoles and PC this month. Grounded was also the top-selling game on PC for the month.

EA Sports College Football 26 jumps on the year’s best-seller chart, starting at the respectable 3rd slot. As expected, the latest EA Sports MVP Bundle also jumped onto the charts, echoing the success of the same franchise/bundle last year. Bananza also made it onto the 20th place on the list, though it likely would have been higher up if Circana had digital sales to add to the count.
