Reviews Spotlight: Crysis 2 again, satire, nostalgia, and Valkyrie Profile

Our thoughts go out to PlayStation fans. We understand the PSN is down for repair, which means those sexy Steam features for Portal 2 are useless. Giving your friends a proper fatality online for that new copy of Mortal Kombat is also out of the question. There is a reason to smile, however. For starters, it’s Easter Sunday. And, it’s another Reviews Spotlight!

A double taste of Kombat: Mortal Kombat II and Ultimate MK 3
By Ryan Conway
To commemorate the release of the new Mortal Kombat, we’ve decided to feature Ryan Conway's reviews of two earlier releases in the series. It’s a very robust article, which includes a brief history of the series, YouTube clips of a few classic fatalities, and two solid reviews. Ryan even includes cheat codes. This is a must-read for Mortal Kombat fans and gamers who want to brush up on the lore of the series.

Heavy as a Feather
By Tony Capri
Apparently, Tony made three attempts to get into Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, but he didn't enjoy it. His fourth try must have done the trick, because his review of this little DS title is an enthusiastic one. Tony talks about the lengths he took to better understand the title's idiosyncrasies. Once he discovered a connection between the story, and the gameplay he became a fan. I really like the message in Tony's review. Sometimes, we want a game to play to our expectations, but if we open ourselves up to the experience — we might discover a gem.
