Hyperscape is helping deliver a personalized version of the metaverse anyone can create in a very short time.
Last year at Meta Connect, Meta introduced a demo of Hyperscape, which uses Gaussian Splatting, cloud rendering, and streaming to make these types of spaces viewable on a Meta Quest 3 headset.
And today, Meta is rolling out Hyperscape Capture in Early Access, so you’ll be able to use your Quest to scan a room in just a few minutes and then turn that into an immersive, photorealistic world of your own, said CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in a keynote speech on the Meta campus.
Making Hyperscape real
Meta is building a new technology called Hyperscape, to bring a new format type to the metaverse that enables social hangouts in real physical spaces that matter to people. In September 2024, Meta launched a tech demo for Quest headsets to showcase a handful of digital replicas leveraging this technology. Rivals like Varjo showed this on more expensive platforms for VR in the past, but Meta is enabling this in a matter of minutes.
This year at Meta’s developer conference Connect, Meta is gradually rolling out Hyperscape Capture (Beta) that lets you capture your real-world space in just minutes, then creates an immersive, true-to-life digital replica that you can visit from anywhere.
This is the first step in enabling our vision for photorealistic social teleportation, as a profound new way to feel like you’re physically there.
Hyperscape technology enables us to scan spaces and recreate them as high-fidelity, photorealistic digital replicas. It’s like stepping into a photograph.
Hyperscape Capture (Beta) lets you capture your real world space in a few minutes, then it processes in a few hours, to create an immersive, true-to-life digital replica. Hyperscape Capture (Beta) is rolling out gradually, starting September 17, for Quest 3 and Quest 3S users only that are 18+. I saw a demo of the tech and it works very fast. You can scan a room in a matter of minutes.
It’s not possible yet, but Hyperscape worlds will be available for people to visit together soon.
