At its I/O 2018 developer conference today, Google opened Google Play Instant to all Android game developers. As the name indicates, these are Android apps and games that can be launched immediately without having to be installed first. An instant version of Candy Crush Saga was shown off at the event.
Google unveiled Android Instant Apps at I/O in May 2016 and opened the Android Instant Apps SDK to all developers at I/O in May 2017. It’s thus fitting the company is now using I/O 2018 to expand the latest version to all developers (the effort was expanded to include games at GDC, and renamed from Android Instant Apps to Google Play Instant).
