Discord plans to go public in an IPO | Bloomberg report

Discord is reportedly filing confidential paperwork to go public in an initial public offering (IPO) that will debut soon, according to sources who talked to Bloomberg.

Discord, a popular chat and community platform, reportedly hired tech IPO bankers Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase to underwrite the deal.

“We understand there is a lot of interest around Discord’s future plans, but we do not comment on rumors or speculation. Our focus remains on delivering the best possible experience for our users and building a strong, sustainable business,” a Discord spokesperson told GamesBeat.

This is not the first time such a deal has been rumored. Last year, rumors surfaced that Discord was in early-stage talks about an IPO. Discord was reportedly valued at $14.7 billion in 2021, when it raised $500 million.

The communications app, which has more than 200 million monthly active users. Discord walked away from a $10 billion offer in 2021 to remain independent instead.

In a talk in November 2025 with Michael Metzger of Drake Star at GamesBeat Next, Sakhnini talked about his focus at the company. In 2025, he replaced Discord’s longtime CEO Jason Citron.

Sakhnini has been in the game industry about 17 years, starting when Activision and Vivendi Games merged. Sakhnini joined Activision Blizzard when it formed. In 2016, Activision Blizzard bought Candy Crush maker King. Sakhnini went to London and became the CFO. He because CEO after King founder Riccardo Zacconi left.

Sakhnini ultimately became vice chairman of Activision Blizzard but he left after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard.

“When Discord came calling, I had taken over from a founder before. That was fun. And I’ve always admired Discord,” he told Metzger.

He noted how Discord solved problems for games when it came to community, marketing, distribution and discovery.

“I just looked at it as such a unique asset,” he said. “If I were going to do one more thing, it’s going to be in games. And it was like a match made in heaven. The amazing thing about Discord is we have an incredible product that is beloved by 200 million plus monthly active users but the company like still thinks of itself as like a little bit of an outside in the games industry.”

He said Discord was the 800-pound gorilla because it brings so much discoverability and distribution. He said Discord was focused on he user experience.

“Our mission has always been about being the place where friends hang out and in assembling all our friends who have a joy and love of gaming,” Sakhnini said.

“We’re just going to continue to iterate and innovate until we find again what drives value to either users or or developers and publishers,” Sakhnini said.
