Bit Reactor, the developer of recent tactical-RPG Star Wars Zero Company, announced today that it has begun to bring back some of its previously furloughed employees. This is apparently thanks in part to the game’s good sales.
Bit Reactor’s furlough of its employees first came to light in September, before Zero Company launched. A spokesperson said at the time that this “difficult decision” was made “before it was clear how the launch would go.” Reportedly, up to 80% of workers were furloughed, leaving only a small crew behind to address post-launch bugs and issues.
Zero Company launched on August 27, and is estimated to have sold over $1 million copies by Alinea Analytics. According to sources speaking with Game File, the returned staff brings the company’s headcount to over half of what it was pre-furlough, which means several employees remain furloughed without pay.
Greg Foertsch, Bit Reactor’s CEO, said in a social media post, “Having to ask team members to step away after we navigated unexpected business developments outside of our control and so close to launch was an incredibly difficult decision, but one that was necessary to help us eventually bring as many people back as possible. This team means a tremendous amount to me, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together.”
