Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC are getting a longer first season, as Battlefield Studios announced an extension of Season 1 alongside a new content drop and a revised Season 2 launch date.
Season 1 will now run through February 17, when Season 2 officially begins, with a Season 1 extension update scheduled to arrive on January 20. Battlefield Studios said the extra time is being used to further develop and refine Season 2 based on player feedback, a move that reflects the studio’s continued focus on iteration in its live service roadmap.
Overall, Battlefield 6 has done incredibly well for Electronic Arts becoming one of its highest-selling games and achieving the biggest launch of the entire Battlefield series to date, directly challenging the dominance that Call of Duty has enjoyed.
“Battlefield 6 delivered blockbuster sales in October,” said Mat Piscatella, Circana’s senior director of video games. “Battlefield 6 debuted as the best-selling game of the year, became the best-selling title in franchise history, and produced the highest single month tracked full game dollar sales total of any video game in three years.”
As part of the extension to Season 1, players will gain access to the Frostfire Bonus Path starting January 27. The new progression track introduces a mix of free and premium rewards, including weapon packages, soldier and vehicle skins, playercard cosmetics, and XP boosts. Players who own the Season 1 Battle Pass will be able to unlock additional premium-tier items, while free players can still earn gameplay and cosmetic rewards through standard progression.
Unlike previous Bonus Paths, Frostfire is built entirely around Weekly Challenges. Players earn Bonus Path Points exclusively by completing these challenges, with 10 points required per tier and 110 points needed to complete the full track.
The Season 1 extension period will also feature limited-time events, including Valentine’s Day Daily Login Rewards and multiple Double XP Weekends, designed to keep engagement high while players wait for Season 2. Battlefield Studios also confirmed that the update will include a range of balance changes, fixes, and gameplay improvements, with full patch notes available on the game’s official site.
From a live service perspective, the decision to extend Season 1 underscores how closely the studio is tying its Battlefield 6 seasonal cadence to player feedback and production realities. By filling the gap with a structured Bonus Path and regular engagement events, the studio is aiming to maintain momentum while ensuring Season 2 launches in a more polished state. That’s certainly much better and more strategic than just delaying Season 2 with a big gap between content releases.
