The final reveal of the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase was a doozy, and even host Geoff Keighley seemed hyped about it as he teed it up: The long-awaited third part and conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII trilogy, called Revelations. Following a long story and gameplay showcase, we also got a release window for the game, which is coming in spring 2027 and releases simultaneously on all platforms.
The trailer showed more of the playable characters, a cast that has expanded to include Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind; who have their own styles to differentiate them from the other characters. Players can explore places like the nation of Wutai and other locations from the original, with the open-world traversal facilitated by airship travel.
Matt Mercer, the voice of Valentine, appeared onstage alongside Square Enix’s Naoki Hamaguchi to reveal story details. Revelation, they said, is the final game in the trilogy and wraps up the expanded story of FF7, and explores each character’s resolve to face their own final destinies.
This was Hamaguchi’s second onstage appearance at the show, as he appeared a few moments before the FF7 Revelation reveal to announced that Tifa would be a guest fighter in Street Fighter 6’s Year 4 update.
