Team17 have announced prison sandbox The Escapists 3, coming to PC and consoles in 2027, during the Triple-I Showcase. The Escapists 3 brings back everything players know about the series, with more prisons to explore, weapons to craft, and ways to escape.
As with previous games, escaping from prison is no mean feat and inmates will need to craft, sneak, fight, and improvise their way through five distinct prisons as they plan their perfect escape – and then execute a much less perfect one when it all goes wrong.
According to a press release, the sequel features more than 120 new weapons to steal and craft, guard rotations to observe and learn, and systems waiting to be exploited for maximum gain, there is no single solution for each escape, just good plans, bad plans, and the occasional plan involving molten chocolate.
“The Escapists, as a series, has aptly been both a breakout and runaway success for Team17. As such, I’m delighted that we’re offering players the chance to become institutionalised once more, but this time in fully realised, 3D correctional facilities. It’s a fresh perspective on a fan favourite, and today’s announcement is just a sneak peek of what’s to come,” said Harley Homewood, general manager, Team17, in a press release.
The press release also reveals the key features of Escapists 3:
- Escape Your Way: Every prison is a system waiting to be understood, exploited and very badly outsmarted.
- Turn Rubbish into Freedom: Search cells, trade with inmates and complete jobs to get your hands on supplies.
- Five Prisons: Break out of five distinctive prisons, each with its own routines, characters, and secrets.
- Make Your Inmate Your Own: Earn XP as you play, unlock new skills and tailor your inmate to your style of escape.
- Better with Accomplices: Try and escape solo or team up with friends. Play with two players in local split-screen, or take your escape online with up to four.
Escapists 3 also offers players the ability to break out of prison with their pals, utilising each other’s strengths and weaknesses to pull off the perfect escape (or perfectly hilarious failure), with two players in local split screen, and up to four online.
Finally, new to The Escapists 3, inmates will gain XP as they play, unlocking new skills and gameplay options to enable them to specialise into specific areas of escape that carry over to each prison.
