Xbox has officially revealed more information about its next-generation console, codenamed Project Helix. While details are still sparse, new Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that this new Xbox will be able to play PC and console games.
Sharma’s post on X reads, “Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”
Numerous rumors about the new Xbox have circulated since the launch of the Series X/S, including that it would be more PC-like in its ecosystem. Players would, theoretically, be able to access not only their Xbox libraries, but their PC game libraries as well, all from the same device. If true, it could give Project Helix one of the biggest gaming catalogues ever to exist.
All that has been confirmed so far is that Xbox is developing the console in partnership with AMD. Departing Xbox president Sarah Bond confirmed in 2024 for that the company was working on the console, which she said would deliver “the biggest technological leap ever in a generation.” Presumably, we’ll learn more about Project Helix at the GDC Festival of Gaming next week.
