Xbox Live is down — Microsoft is working on a fix (updated: it’s back online)

Microsoft knows that Xbox Live is not working for a ton of people right now, and it has engineers investigating the problem. A significant number of Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC players who use the Xbox Live platform are complaining on social media that the network is not functioning properly at the moment. Microsoft separately confirmed the issue on Twitter and its Xbox Live status page — but even that status page is now having trouble loading.

This outage is preventing players from logging into Xbox Live. It is also causing errors when people try to boot into their games or load up apps like Netflix, Amazon Video, and Hulu. The error is not affecting every Xbox Live user, but a percentage of players seem to have no access at all. The connection errors are affecting both online games as well as primarily single-player releases, but you can still launch the latter by going to Settings, Network, and selecting “offline mode” (thanks to Juan for that tip).

“Signing into Xbox Live, browsing the Xbox Games Store, buying downloadable items, and downloading items that you have already purchased [are not working],” reads the Xbox Live status page. “We are aware that some members may be having problems purchasing content. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we will be sure to provide you with frequent updates.”

Update at 9:30 p.m. PDT: Xbox Live is back up and running.
