What Supercell’s $3B valuation means for the mobile game business (hint: Party time!)

SoftBank and GungHo Entertainment gave a big endorsement for the future of mobile game industry with their 51 percent purchase of Supercell for $1.5 billion.

The deal values Helsinki-based Supercell, the maker of the Clash of Clans and Hay Day free-to-play mobile games that have dominated the top grossing ranks for up to a year, at $3 billion. The deal means that free-to-play mobile gaming company values are rapidly rising — at least for the makers of the blockbuster games.
