Sony just updated the PlayStation Blog with a lengthy list of “frequently asked questions” for the PlayStation 4. We’re nearly two weeks away from that next-gen console’s Nov. 15 launch, which means it’s about time we got some of these answers.
The company revealed that gamers can expand the storage of the PlayStation 4 as long as they are replacing the internal drive because PS4 doesn’t support external hard drives.
“PS4 is equipped with a 5400 RPM SATA II hard drive,” reads Sony’s FAQ. “Users can choose to install a new hard drive so long as it complies with these standards: [It] is no thicker than 9.5mm and is larger than 160GB.”
In regard to the external hard drive, the FAQ simply says, “No, this feature is not supported on PS4.”
We’ve reached out to Sony to ask why it isn’t supporting external drives and whether this is something that it could patch in support for later. We’ll update this post with any new information.
