The Bornless horror FPS gets new game mode and trailer

Cathedral Studios has unveiled The Ritual, a new game mode for its upcoming horror first-person shooter game The Bornless.

Cathedral Studios is an innovative and fast-growing team featuring developers with experience in acclaimed franchises such as Far Cry, Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty.

This announcement comes alongside the launch of a new teaser trailer for The Bornless, dropping today at 1 PM CET (4 a.m. Pacific) via IGN and GameTrailers YouTube channels ahead of the Gamescom 2024 gaming expo in Cologne, Germany, next week. (Mike Minotti and I will be there).

Set on a remote Lovecraftian island during the 1960s, The Ritual mode establishes The Bornless universe and pulls players into a high-stakes survival experience.

Duos find themselves on Farmouth Island at night; the fog is out in full, and beyond it lurks all manner of
phobia-inducing creatures. Their only means of extracting off the island and returning to their respective safehouses is to complete the necessary rituals, invoke the Demons of Farmouth, and do their deadly bidding. Those who don’t must fight to survive or risk losing everything.

“With The Ritual we’ve crafted a gameplay experience that challenges players’ strategy, skill, and instincts,” says Toby Saunders, CEO of Cathedral Studios, in a statement. “The community’s excitement has been incredible, and we’re eager for players to immerse themselves in this new mode. We’re also thrilled to showcase the game at Gamescom 2024, where fans can experience the terror firsthand.”

The newly released teaser trailer, set against the haunting backdrop of Farmouth Island smothered by fog, offers viewers a suspenseful glimpse into the world of The Bornless.

As eerie sounds of the sea mix with screams, gunshots, and explosions, two characters aboard a boat witness the terrors that await them. This brief yet intense preview promises a blend of horror and action that will leave viewers eagerly anticipating more.

Fans attending Gamescom 2024 can find The Bornless at the Entertainment Area in Hall 10.1, Stand E-080, where they can try out the new game mode, meet popular Twitch streamer Delacroix, enjoy giveaways, meet the team, give feedback, and much more.

For those not attending Gamescom in person, Cathedral Studios will be streaming The Bornless on Twitch and Steam, ensuring everyone can experience the new mode. Cathedral Studios will also have a presence in the Business Area at Hall 4.1, Stand D-011, for those interested in learning more about the studio’s future plans.

The next playtest for The Bornless, featuring The Ritual mode, is scheduled for fall 2024. Gamers eager to participate can join the waitlist on the Steam page or directly on The Bornless website.
