The Super Mario Galaxy Movie generated $372 million at the box office in the U.S. and abroad in its first five days, according to Box Office Mojo.

Variety reported that the film is on track to hit $129 million by Sunday, but in fact the movie surpassed those expectations, hitting $190 million by Sunday. The film is clearly already a global hit, but a lot depends on international markets. [Updated: 4/5/26 at 12:13 p.m. with five-day figures and global numbers].

The film has a lot to live up to at Nintendo. The first film, Super Mario Bros. Movie, generated $1.36 billion at the box office when the movie debuted in 2023. About $576 million of that was domestic in the U.S., while $786 million was international.

Right now, the film has only two of five stars on Rotten Tomatoes (42%), but it’s based on a very thin number of viewer reviews.

The animated comedy adventure film came out on April 1. It’s based on the Super Mario Galaxy game from 2007 as well as its 2010 sequel. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed the film and it was written by Matthew Fogel. The voice actors include Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key. New members of the voice acting cast are Benny Safdie, Donald Glover and Brie Larson. Nintendo and Illumination produced the film.

The movie saw its premier in Kyoto on March 28. The budget was an estimated $110 million, not counting marketing costs.
