Shin Megami Tensei V for the Switch is coming to the West

In October, Atlus announced that Shin Megami Tensei V was coming to the Switch in Japan. Today, the Sega-owned studio revealed that the role-playing game is also releasing in the West.

The Shin Megami Tensei franchise once rarely left Japan, but the Persona sub-series has helped it find a more global audience. Persona 5 released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 earlier this year and sold more than 2 million copies.

A release outside of Japan for Shin Megami Tensei V always seemed more than likely, but confirmation is still nice. The last couple games in the series, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, released for the Nintendo 3DS. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne was a PlayStation 2 game.

Nintendo’s Switch has been a success since launching March, and the portable/home console hybrid is starting to attract some major Japanese role-playing games. Nintendo’s own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 launches on December 1, and Square Enix is working on Project Octopath Traveler.
