Two iconic gaming brands are joining forces for a month-long in-game collaboration.

Today, April 1, Playstudios is kicking off a Space Invaders activation inside its Tetris mobile game, bringing the two legendary arcade brands together inside a single gaming experience for the first time.

The collaboration between Tetris and Space Invaders will run between April 1 and April 30 and includes three in-game events: “Days of Invaders,” an in-game activity that will run between April 1-12, during which players can peel away virtual stickers to reveal a secret image and earn in-game cosmetics and prizes; a partnership with the “impact-as-a-service” platform Dots.Eco between April 13-23, through which players can complete a curated set of levels to prompt Tetris to make a donation to an environmental cause in their name; and an “Invaders Showdown” tournament between April 24-30, offering a new limited-time game mode and exclusive rewards for top-ranked players.

“Tetris and Space Invaders have shaped gaming culture for decades,” said Playstudios chief marketing officer Mickey Sonnino in a statement emailed to GamesBeat. “This partnership is about honoring what fans have always loved about these two iconic franchises while creating for them something fresh, fun and surprising.”

The in-game Tetris/Space Invaders activation will combine gameplay and visual elements from both classic gaming brands. Players are prompted to “defend Tetris,” with pixelated alien invaders descending as players race to clear lines using Tetris blocks.

The crossover between Tetris and Space Invaders is part of a new marketing strategy for the Tetris mobile game intended to focus on “iconic collaborations and cultural gaming moments,” according to a LinkedIn post by Playstudios head of growth Amitay Amir, who noted that the month-long event will be supported by a “full 360-degree campaign across UA, PR, CRM, social and platform featuring.”

“We’re proud to launch one of our biggest arcade crossovers yet,” Amir wrote in the LinkedIn post.

Playstudios has an exclusive license to develop Tetris titles for mobile devices, which the company originally signed in 2021 and currently extends into 2028. In addition to the Tetris mobile app, Playstudios also launched the puzzle game Tetris Block Party in late 2025.

Other recent examples of crossovers between the wider Tetris brand and other popular gaming properties include a partnership between Tetris and Spin Master announced in October 2024, an official “Tetris x Minecraft” integration and ongoing collaborations between Tetris 99 and Nintendo franchises such as Animal Crossing and Splatoon.

“Working with Playstudios has been an incredible journey. They have been exceptional stewards of the Tetris brand, respecting its legacy while steering it in promising new directions. They have repeatedly demonstrated their dedication, creativity, and understanding of what makes Tetris so special to so many people,” said The Tetris Company president Maya Rogers in a press release announcing the extension of Playstudios’ Tetris license in 2023. “We are thrilled to continue this partnership and are excited to see how Playstudios will further elevate the Tetris experience.”
