News Blips: New Panasonic Handheld, Duke Nukem Forever Demo, 2,000 Rock Band Songs, and More

The JungleWe've waited 14 long years, but Panasonic is finally ready to unveil its successor to the horribly priced and mostly forgotten 3DO.

News Blips:

Panasonic announces its new handheld, tentatively titled "The Jungle." The device focuses upon online gaming with a business model called Panasonic Cloud Entertainment, or PCENT for short.  Its website lists creating "an online ecosystem around gaming" as its mission, although Battlestar Galactica Online is The Jungle's only known title at the moment. The only way this thing will sell? Serious promotion from Guns N' Roses, baby! [Crunch Gear]

Gearbox promises early access to the Duke Nukem Forever demo with the purchase of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. The game will include a certificate to the "Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club," though the demo won't be available immediately. Sorry, Gearbox, but we're pretty used to waiting for this game by now. [1UP]

Harmonix announces next week's Rock Band DLC will push the game's tracklist to over 2,000 songs. The Jimi Hendrix Experience's Are You Experienced will do the honors next week with its 17 tracks, including Purple Haze and Foxey Lady. Over 800 bands have contributed tracks to form the series' vast soundtrack. That's a lot of artists complaining about kids not learning real guitar while gladly taking their money. [IGN]

Court rules in favor of EA against Edge Games's motion for preliminary injunction. Tim Langdell, founder of Edge Games, became notorious over the last couple years for seeking legal action against video games with "edge" in their titles. When he set his sights on Mirror's Edge, EA petitioned that Langdell had no right to sue for use of the word. This week, the court denied Langdell's motion for preliminary injunction, which would have prevented the sale of Mirror's Edge until the court settles Langdell's trademark lawsuit against the publisher. The district judge also suspects Langdell of "trolling" the game industry for liscensing opportunities. I guess judges hate trolls just as much as gamers do. [Industry Gamers]
