News Blips: 3DS Specs Leak, Microsoft Wants More Frequent Halo Releases, and More

Nintendo 3DSIGN's staff members put themselves at great risk this week by revealing Nintendo 3DS specs. Don't they know what Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime is all about?

News Blips:

IGN revealed supposed hardware specs for Nintendo's upcoming 3DS handheld, which it learned from an anonymous source. According to the leak, the system "will pack not one, but two 266MHz ARM11 CPUs, along with a 133MHz GPU, 4MBs of dedicated VRAM, 64MBs of RAM, and 1.5GBs of flash storage." For reference, IGN said several developers are comparing the 3DS graphical power to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on "smaller, lower resolution screens." It also appears the system's 3D glasses are so small, they're practically non-existent.

Phil Specter, corporate vice president for Microsoft Game Studios, said the frequency of Halo releases — about one every three years — hasn't been enough. Specter said there are no explicit plans to release a Halo game every year, but he stated that large gaps "can be detrimental to audience engagement." He said he respects what Activision has done with its frequent installments in the Call of Duty franchise. I guess it's only a matter of time before Halo is split between two companies, the "good" one and the "other" one. [IGN]

Christopher Nolan, director of Inception, discussed plans to make a video-game spin-off based on the world of his box-office hit. "What we are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film," Nolan told Variety. He added that it would be a long-term project, a couple of years away. Maybe he should team up with Tim Schafer and make a sequel to Psychonauts. Someone's already got started on the project!

Capcom has canceled its PC release of Super Street Fighter 4 due to the piracy rate of its previous release. Series Producer Yoshinori Ono said Street Fighter 4 sold well worldwide on PC but added that it was "number one in piracy." Ono said the game would still be possible if they could find a better copy protection solution, however. Sometimes I wish pirates still suffered from scurvy. [Andriasang]
