Hi there! I’m Alexander Lee, GamesBeat’s new lead news writer. I’ve been writing for GamesBeat since October 9, so you might have already read one of my stories — but I figured it couldn’t hurt to introduce myself directly, too.
I’m coming over to GamesBeat from Digiday, where I spent over four years as a senior reporter covering gaming, esports and the world of content creators. Digiday is a business publication that primarily covers the advertising and marketing industries, so much of my coverage of gaming over the past few years has been filtered through these lenses. I’m excited to widen my coverage at GamesBeat to include all aspects of the gaming industry, but my deep interest in the way advertising dollars flow through and around games isn’t going anywhere.
As gaming becomes a pillar of modern culture — and GamesBeat stretches its wings as an independent publication — I am tremendously excited to support GamesBeat in its mission to provide honesty and clarity amid all of the ongoing industry hubbub. From the slow rise of clipping, to the explosion of UGC creators, to Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in gaming and esports, there is no shortage of stories to tell in this industry. I hope you all are down to come along with me as I dive into the pile headfirst.
Over the past few weeks, my coverage for GamesBeat has spanned across topics like the changing nature of venture funding in gaming, the role of millennial nostalgia in game marketing and the growing divide between “gamers” and “players.” Stay tuned for much more — and feel free to say hello if you see me at GamesBeat Next later this month.
