Netmarble confirmed this week that The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, its upcoming open-world action-RPG based on the popular anime and manga series The Seven Deadly Sins, releases on January 28, 2026. It also revealed more details about the game before launch, including the single-player campaign and the various side missions players can partake of in the world of Britannia.
According to the game’s developers, Origin features a storyline original to the game, though it also brings together characters from the source material. Players can partake of fishing and cooking in addition to turn-based battles. At present, the studio is recruiting testers for the closed beta via the game’s official website.
GamesBeat spoke with Do-Hyung Koo, the game’s executive producer, said, “Bringing a manga IP to life as an open-world RPG was not easy. We had to faithfully respect the original characters’ unique abilities, weapons, and power balance, while also making inevitable adjustments and introducing new elements to ensure the game remained fun. Because open-world RPGs emphasize freedom, there was always the risk of undermining the original setting, so our development team worked tirelessly to create a world that would resonate not only with gamers but also with fans of the original series.”
Koo added that one of the challenges of the developing the game was to balance gameplay needs with the feel of the original series, particularly with regards to the game’s open world, “Creating a vast world that players could freely explore while staying true to the charm of the original series required a great deal of trial and error both technically and in terms of design.”
He also said, “Capturing the essence of the original series while taking on the new challenge of building an open world was a major task, and it required a lot of technical experimentation and trial and error. But throughout it all, the entire team shared a single goal: ‘Let’s deliver a truly new experience to the fans.’ With that shared vision, we were able to move forward together and achieve what we have today.”
