Netflix teases upcoming Minecraft animated series

Netflix and Mojang Studios announced today that they’re collaborating on an animated series based on Minecraft. The two companies announced the show as part of Minecraft’s 15th anniversary celebration, and didn’t reveal any details beyond the trailer, which shows a creeper exploding and the Netflix logo built within Minecraft.

While the trailer itself is scant on details, and Netflix is not revealing any story information, a few tidbits of information dropped at the time of the announcement. WildBrain, which animated Sonic Prime, will also animate this series. According to a news release, the series will allegedly follow an original story with new characters, “showing the world of Minecraft in a new light.”

This is the latest in a series of video game-to-show/movie adaptations that have either been announced or released recently. This is not even the only Minecraft adaptation, as a live-action film is being developed by Mojang, Legendary and Warner Bros. The film is directed by Jared Hess, stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black and is scheduled for release in April 2025.
