Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport 6 has you racing — and fishtailing — in realistic rain

Some may scoff, but pulling off realistic rain is something no one has done yet in a racing sim. And it’s the latest feature that Microsoft is touting for its highly anticipated Forza Motorsport 6.

Dan Greenawalt, the creative director at the publisher’s Turn 10 Studios, showed off the latest gameplay for Forza Motorsport 6 at the Xbox One parent’s press event today at Gamescom, the big trade show in Cologne, Germany.

It’s the latest in a series that has had more than 25 million players over the last 10 years, Greenawalt said. Today, Microsoft highlighted the ability to drive in the rain under highly realistic conditions. The lighting and rain effects are based on scores of unique wet surfaces that Turn 10 has created.

“This is as real as it gets,” Greenawalt said.

The title has 250 cars, all with precise details such as working doors, headlights, full damage models, and customization. It will have 26 destinations and multiplayer races with up to 24 players on dedicated servers. The ranked races will be broadcast in 1080p at 60 frames per second on an Xbox One game console.
