Microsoft has finally confirmed that its previously announced Xbox One S console will be launching on August 2 in 25 markets.
The company also announced that a 1TB and 500GB version will be made available for $350 and $300, respectively, though no launch date has been provided for these incarnations.
The 2TB version will be available in “limited quantities” for $400 in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and 22 other markets, including Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey.
After the news leaked through a games forum last month, Microsoft gave its first official glimpse of the new console at the Electronic Entertainment Expo event in Los Angeles. The Xbox One S is 40 percent smaller than the original Xbox One console, which was announced back in 2013 and supports 4K and HDR video. Additionally, it will ship with a brand-new controller with grips and increased range — this can also be purchased separately for $60.
Given that many criticized the original Xbox One for its bulkiness, particularly in comparison to Sony’s PlayStation 4, this new version will no doubt go down well in some circles. Whether Xbox fans will upgrade to a new console purely for its size and a boost in its specs remains to be seen.
