When Rock Band Blitz hits the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade next week, it will have a new way for faux-rockstars to play with (or against) each other in the form of Rock Band World, a new Facebook companion application.
The app, which is available now (though most of the features are locked until Tuesday), allows Rock Band Blitz players to work together and complete various weekly goals in order to win coins, which can be used to purchase in-game power-ups. Of course, if you’re the type who prefers Sting to The Police, you can try to beat these goals on your own. But The Police are way cooler than Sting, so come on. Play with friends.
On top of that, if you’d rather compete with your friends than collaborate with them (like, say, everyone in every band ever), Rock Band World also features a Score Wars mode that lets you directly send challenges to your friends. It’s sort of like every other Facebook game, except this one might involve your friend saying they can beat your high score on Meat Loaf’s “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights,” which isn’t the sort of thing you can ignore as easily as requests for help gathering cows or whatever.
While most of Rock Band World is focused on enhancing the Rock Band Blitz experience, Harmonix isn’t forgetting about Rock Band 3. Those who prefer “playing music” with “instruments” will be able to use the app to browse through all of the series’s 3,890 songs, purchase ones they don’t have, and look up their stats on ones they do.
Rock Band World is available now on Facebook, with Rock Band Blitz on sale August 28 for PlayStation 3 and August 29 for Xbox 360.
