Fallout Prime series reaches 65 million viewers in two weeks

Amazon revealed today that Fallout, the show, has managed to accrue 65 million viewers in its first 16 days since release. This makes the video game adaptation the second most-watched Prime series ever, behind The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The news comes shortly after the series was renewed for a second season, and the games upon which they’re based have seen a huge surge of new players.

The company revealed the information in a post on X. A report from Variety also adds a few more stats, namely that the show is Amazon’s most popular for the 18-34 demographic, and that the show is very popular in the UK, France and Brazil. This puts it up with some of the more popular video game adaptations — the final episode of HBO’s The Last of Us had 30.4 million for its first six episodes one year ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bethesda has not said how many new players each Fallout game has, but third-party sources show that several of the titles, including Fallout 76, have hit record high concurrent player counts. Recently, GamesBeat spoke with series creative director Jonathan Rush, who said that Bethesda Game Studios made sure to prepare the MMO title for curious Prime viewers by offering items from the show in the game.

Fallout joins the growing list of popular, successful game-to show/movie adaptations. There are several more adaptations in the works, including the Borderlands film, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and a new season of Netflix’s League of Legends show Arcane due out in 2024.
