EA Play subscribers will soon have to pay more money if they want to continue using the publisher’s all-you-can-play service.
As first reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Electronic Arts is increasing the prices of both its subscription tiers. The EA Play monthly membership is going up from $4.99 to $5.99, with the annual option increasing to $39.99 (originally $29.99). And the monthly cost of EA Play Pro is going up from $14.99 to $16.99, with the annual price increasing to $119.99 (originally $99.99).
These prices are now live for anyone who signs up starting today, but current subscribers won’t see the change until May 10. The GI.biz story attributes the reason for these increases to “changes in currency value and to bring fees in line with market value.”
Other gaming subscription services have also seen price hikes since last year, including PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass. And it might only get tougher from here – in Newzoo’s Market Trends report from January, the firm predicted that growth from subscription services will slow down in 2024 due to less interest from developers and decreased payments from the platforms’ licensing deals.
