Google’s Android mobile operating system doesn’t have a shortage of compatible devices. The OS runs scores of smartphones, some televisions, and a few set-top boxes. A few manufacturers, like China-based JinXing Digital (JXD) and Nvidia, even use it as the backbone for gaming-focused handhelds.
Today, JXD is introducing the latest entry in its lineup of gaming tablets with the new S7800 line.
This device, which looks very similar to a PlayStation Vita, runs Android 4.2.2 Jellybean and features a quad-core processor. It comes in two flavors, a $160 model with 1GB RAM and a slightly underpowered CPU and GPU, and $170 model with 2GB of RAM and beefed up innards.
The $170 model, called the S7800B, still probably can’t quite match Nvidia’s Tegra 4-based Shield Android portable, but it is likely more than enough to handle even the most demanding Android games. It also costs $130 less than Nvidia’s Shield.
Both S7800A and S7800B gaming devices feature a 7-inch 1280-by-800 IPS display. Both devices also feature 8GB of storage and a MicroSD slot to expand that space.
Online retailer Willgoo has both the $170 S7800B and the $160 S7800A available for preorder.
