Consortium’s sequel seeks funding on Fig

Another sequel is hoping to get made with the help of fans.

Consortium: The Tower is seeking $300,000 on the crowdfunding site Fig, which differs from other platforms like Kickstarter in that it allows funders to get involved in equity investing and possibly see a part of a game’s profits. The original Consortium was a story-driven first-person role-playing game that took place on a spaceship. It released in 2014 for PC. The sequel will take place in a tower (hence the name) in a futuristic London.

Dr. Greg Zeschuk, one of the co-founders of BioWare, has already invested in Consortium: The Tower.

“For me, it reminds me of the kind of game I personally enjoy,” Zeschuk told GamesBeat. “You have the action element, the big narrative elements. There’s a variety of actions. The player has a lot of agency in how they can control the world. It reminds me in some ways of the games we used to make, but it has a different flavor. That’s more exciting in itself. You can see how someone else takes on those angles. There aren’t a lot of games with this level of flexibility in real time storytelling. As you do things, the world changes in a dynamic way. There are games that do that, big huge rolling epics, but this is a focused independent product that can do this and has done it. In some ways it’s a best-of-class kind of multi-layered narrative world-changing RPG-ish action game. It’s a game I’d love to play, a game that I think should be made. That makes it, for me, something I’d like to support.”

Previously, games like Psychonauts 2 and Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Punch Blast have successfully raised funding on Fig.
