Razer has taken some years to do it but it is announcing a refresh of its gaming headset lineup with the launch of the Razer BlackShark V3 Pro today.

The new headset is an evolution of its iconic esports headset series. Designed for peak competitive performance, the new lineup includes platform-optimized models for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, each delivering ultra-low latency wireless audio, crystal-clear voice
communication, and tailored sound tuning.

“The BlackShark series has long been a trusted choice among competitive gamers,” said Jeffrey Chau, global esports director at Razer, in a statement. “With the BlackShark V3 Pro line, we’ve refined the essentials — sound quality, comfort, and noise isolation — based on direct feedback from esports professionals. Now, with the fastest wireless performance and ultra-low latency audio, every detail is tuned to meet the demands of today’s top
players, delivering the clarity, speed, and focus they need to perform at their best.”

The Razer BlackShark V2 debuted way back in 2020, and that title did so well with its Titanium drivers that Razer says it is still the No. 1 gaming headset brand in the U.S. That was when the company released its Titanium drivers.

More than one in five of every esports player playing on pro settings is using the Razer headset. Razer considers that to be a testament to its integration in the esports community. The first BlackShark headset debuted back in 2012. The company did a refresh of the V3 in 2023, but it chose not to call that a new version generation. It did, however, launch its console version.

“In 2023, we wanted to improve the mic and we wanted to include some extra features, like the FPS profiles. But it wasn’t enough change yet to justify looking into the next generation. But we feel like this with the simultaneous audio, the drivers, the mic, the AMC, they were significant upgrades. So it’s time for new generation,” said Paige Sander, senior product evangelist for console audio at for Razer, in a briefing with GamesBeat.

Engineered for competitive precision

Originally introduced in 2012 for competitive Battlefield play, the BlackShark quickly
earned a reputation for tournament-grade reliability.

As of July 2025, the BlackShark V2 Pro ranks as the No. 1 Headset on ProSettings. The new BlackShark V3 Pro builds on that legacy with next-generation features designed for elite esports athletes. This one was built with pro players in mind.

“You can’t have an esports headset unless you build it with the pros,” said Sander. “So we sent all of these pros early prototypes. They work directly with our audio engineers to find their perfect settings for the games that they play best in.”

Razer HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2 for ultra-low latency

The BlackShark V3 Pro is the first headset to feature Razer’s Gen-2 HyperSpeed Wireless technology, delivering industry-leading, ultra-responsive audio with latency as low as 10 milliseconds. This represents a 33% reduction compared to the 15 ms latency found in top competing headsets, giving players a decisive edge in fast-paced competitive scenarios where every millisecond counts.

Gen2 of the HyperSpeed wireless tech means faster performance when it comes to latency.

“If you’re playing wired or wireless, we’ve got you covered,” said Sander. “We knew that this was also going to be important to our console gamers who like to plug directly into their controller. So regardless of how you want to play, we’ve got a connectivity option for you.”

Razer HyperClear full band mic for pro-level communication

Communication is critical in esports. The detachable 12 mm microphone offers studio-grade voice capture with a professional-level sampling rate of 48 kHz and a unidirectional pickup pattern — ensuring players are heard clearly, even in the heat of battle.

With the mic, it’s a 12-millimeter capsule size, compared to 9.9 millimeters before. So more of your voice gets captured, Sander said.

“You sound rich and natural,” Sander said.

I was able to listen to mic samples on the V3 compared to the competing headsets, and it sounded better on Razer.

Hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC)

For the first time in the BlackShark series, the BlackShark V3 Pro features advanced hybrid ANC powered by a 4-microphone system that intelligently filters out ambient noise. Combined with memory foam ear cushions and a closed-back design, the headset helps players maintain focus in any environment.

There’s a big difference in quality and ambient noise when you turn on active noise cancellation. I played the beginning of the campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 using the V3 headset. It had excellent sound quality.

Next-gen Razer TriForce bio-cellulose drivers for crisp audio

Gen-2 TriForce 50 mm drivers with ultra-thin bio-cellulose diaphragms deliver cleaner, more natural sound and sharper frequency separation for precise in-game audio cues. A redesigned driver plug reduces harmonic distortion by 50%, ensuring crisp clarity, while a 75% increase in magnet field strength enhances spatial accuracy for pinpoint detection of enemy movement.

There’s a layer of plush leatherette ear cups with dual-layer flow knit memory foam cushions. It creates comfort without capturing too much sweat, which can make your ears feel wet or cold.

THX Spatial Audio with 7.1.4 surround sound (PC only)

THX Spatial Audio expands the vertical soundstage by adding four virtual overhead speakers to content that supports 7.1.4 channels on PC. This creates a more precise and layered sound environment, enabling gamers to locate audio cues not only around them but also above. The result is precise positional audio and greater directionality in supported games and media. The BlackShark V3 Pro is the first product to feature this new THX Spatial Audio configuration.

Pro-tested, Player-Approved

Developed with direct input from esports legends including Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, Counter-Strike icon and newest member of Team Razer, and Shotzzy, professional Call of Duty player for OpTic, the BlackShark V3 Pro was meticulously fine-tuned for competitive excellence.

“Sound plays a huge role in how I make decisions in-game,” said NiKo. “With the BlackShark V3 Pro, it became easier to pick the more subtle audio details around reloads, footsteps and position shifts, that were harder to catch before. I had a chance to try the early prototypes and worked closely with Razer’s team to help fine-tune the headset for competitive CS2. It’s definitely a step up, and a clear upgrade that keeps me focused and confident.”

“The audio clarity and mic quality are next level—it’s everything I need to stay locked in and make the right calls,” said Shotzzy. “I’ve used it in scrims and tournaments, and the clarity really stands out. I also shared feedback with Razer during testing—it’s clear this
headset was built with competitive play in mind.”

Tailored audio for every platform

Each BlackShark V3 Pro model is optimized to deliver competitive-grade audio for its respective platform:

  • PC – THX Spatial Audio with enhanced 7.1.4 surround for expanded
    verticality and precision.
  • PlayStation – Compatible with Tempest 3D Audio for console-specific
    soundscapes.
  • Xbox – Supports Windows Sonic for spatial sound tuned to Xbox
    environments.

The headset supports four versatile connection modes: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, USB-A, and 3.5 mm. It also supports simultaneous 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth audio, allowing dual-device connectivity ideal for staying connected to voice chat or calls while gaming.

With 12 pro-tuned EQ profiles optimized for popular FPS titles and support for up to nine custom EQ profiles stored directly on the headset, gamers can enjoy plug-and-play performance without software.

Expanding the BlackShark legacy

Alongside the flagship BlackShark V3 Pro, Razer introduces two additional models to
meet the diverse needs of gamers:

  • Razer BlackShark V3 – Features TriForce Titanium 50 mm Drivers Gen-2, THX Spatial Audio, and a HyperClear Superwide Band Mic. Supports simultaneous HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth audio, USB connectivity, and up to nine onboard EQ profiles. Available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
  • Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed – Entry-level wireless headset with TriForce 50 mm Drivers Gen-2, 7.1 Surround Sound, and a HyperClear Cardioid Mic. Supports HyperSpeed Wireless, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. Available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

With the launch of the BlackShark V3 series, Razer continues to advance its audio technology to meet the evolving needs of competitive gamers across PC, PlayStation,
and Xbox.

As esports and platform-specific play grow, Razer remains committed to working closely with players and communities to shape the future of gaming audio — ensuring every sound, every callout, and every moment is delivered with clarity, precision, and purpose.
