An MI6 first — Pecha Kucha: Perspectives on the future of video game marketing

MI6Pecha Kucha, which will take center stage at next week’s 6th Annual MI6 Game Marketing Conference, is a conference session format where a series of speakers show 20 slides for 20 seconds before they scoot off the stage to make way for the next presenter. The method, which originated in Tokyo in 2003, has since hit the rest of the world, specifically the design community, as a way to keep presentations quick-hitting, creative and engaging.

As the video gaming industry is constantly pushing the digital envelope in interactivity, creativity and storytelling, Pecha Kucha’s innovative format – the anti-boring conference session – is a perfect fit for this year’s MI6 Game Marketing Conference. With less than seven minutes to convey all their information completely and coherently, speakers are challenged to stay on their toes.

At this year’s MI6 Game Marketing Conference, Pecha Kucha’s revolving door will see six leaders from the video game industry: Tony Key, MI6 co-chair and Ubisoft’s SVP of sales and marketing who leads Ubisoft’s sales, marketing, public relations, packaging and promotions teams; Geoff Keighley, executive in charge of publisher relations at Spike TV and the host and executive producer of GT.TV, the number-one rated video game show on television; Will Kassoy, gaming executive and former SVP of strategic growth at Activision Blizzard; Julie Shumaker, SVP and GM at RockYou Media and one of Digital Media Wire’s “25 Executives to Watch in Digital Entertainment”; Teddy Underwood, account executive of gaming at Facebook who is leading the social media giant’s efforts to help the gaming industry go social; John Davison, VP of programming, games and Metacritic at CBS Interactive, who oversees programming strategy for GameSpot, Metacritic and GameFAQs.

The 6th Annual MI6 Game Marketing Conference will be held on April 7, 2011 at San Francisco’s Grand Hyatt. For more information or to register, go here.
