Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer reminds everyone that the series has multiplayer

Another year doesn’t mean just another Assassin’s Creed game — it also means a few new maps and characters for the franchise’s aging multiplayer mode.

Ubisoft trotted out a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that focuses on its competitive mode. Unsurprisingly, it looks pretty similar to the last few games.

Check it out below:

Assassin’s Creed multiplayer puts players into a training simulation where they must track down an opponent while simultaneously evading an enemy that’s hunting them. Everyone is a cat, and everyone is also a mouse.

Ubisoft introduced the mode in 2010’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Black Flag will make the fourth game in the franchise to feature this style of multiplayer. Of course, Ubisoft’s developers are adding new maps and characters based on the pirates and tropical locales featured in Black Flag’s campaign.

The Assassin’s Creed series has had an annual release each year since 2009’s Assassin’s Creed II. While Ubisoft continues to change the story, setting, and characters, the publisher might risk burning gamers out if it continues using releasing the same multiplayer mode each year.
