As originally reported by Reuters, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is exploring a major acquisition of Unity Software alongside investment firm Silver Lake, in a potential deal that could value the video game technology company at approximately $25 billion.

According to the report, discussions have taken place between the two investors and Unity as they consider a possible takeover. No final agreement has been reached, and negotiations remain ongoing.

Unity is best known for its widely used game development engine, which powers thousands of titles across PC, console and mobile platforms. Its technology is also used in industries beyond gaming, including automotive design, architecture and industrial simulation.

Silver Lake is already an established investor in Unity, holding an approximately 8% stake in the company. A successful acquisition would bring the business under the ownership of the investment firm and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

The reported interest follows Saudi Arabia’s expanding involvement in the global gaming industry. The PIF has built a substantial portfolio of gaming investments, including stakes in major publishers and developers, alongside its involvement in esports.

The fund recently completed its acquisition of Electronic Arts in a transaction valued at approximately $55 billion, further strengthening its position in the international games market.

Unity’s financial performance has also shown improvement. The company reported third-quarter revenue of $622.1 million, representing a 32% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. It also recorded its first quarterly GAAP profit since becoming a publicly traded company in 2020.

The reported $25 billion valuation was discussed before the release of Unity’s latest financial results.

A potential acquisition would give Saudi Arabia and Silver Lake control of one of the most widely used development technologies in the gaming industry. However, the discussions have yet to produce a confirmed transaction, and Unity’s future ownership remains undecided at the time of writing.
