Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 18, giving players a new way to experience Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Gotham City’s protector.
Developer TT Games and publisher Warner Bros. Games released a new launch trailer today ahead of the Switch 2 debut, and pre-orders are open for both the Standard and Deluxe editions. Players who pre-order either edition will receive The Dark Knight Returns in-game Batsuit, an outfit inspired by the celebrated 1986 comic book series by Frank Miller.
The open-world action-adventure title lets players move between docked and handheld modes on Switch 2, following Wayne’s arc from his origins to his emergence as Batman. The game leans on decades of Batman film, television, comic book and game history, blending DC references with TT Games’ signature brand of Lego humor.
Deluxe Edition owners on Switch 2 will get two content packages at launch. The Mayhem Collection DLC adds The Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters, a new story mission built around their escape from Arkham Asylum, a Mayhem Mode gameplay feature centered on causing chaos across Gotham, and a Sinister Pack of villain-themed outfits, Batcave items and a vehicle. The Legacy Collection DLC adds suits, vehicles and Batcave items pulled from the Batman: Arkham game series and the Batman Beyond animated series, along with a party-music-themed content pack.
Physical edition buyers will also receive a free Lego Retro Videogame Batman minifigure while supplies last.
Alongside the Switch 2 launch, TT Games is rolling out a free update for all platforms adding an Absolute difficulty setting. The developer says the mode will demand more precision and combat awareness than the existing Caped Crusader and Dark Knight difficulty tiers.
The Mayhem Collection DLC will also release September 18 for Deluxe Edition owners on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, where the base game has already been available. Standard Edition owners on those platforms can buy a Deluxe Edition upgrade to unlock both add-on packages.
Warner Bros. Games is also tying unlockable content to its broader ecosystem of accounts. Players who create or already hold a Warner Bros. Games account can access the Golden Age Batsuit, based on Batman’s 1939 debut appearance in “Detective Comics” #27. Linking that account to an active HBO Max subscription unlocks two additional suits inspired by DC’s Blackest Night and Dark Knights of Steel comic runs. A DC Universe Infinite subscription, at any tier, unlocks an in-game Comics Rack item for the Batcave, and players with the service’s paid Ultra or Standard tiers can unlock an Animated Jarro character item as well.
Warner Bros. Games is also selling a line of Lego DC Batman sets that come with redeemable in-game content, including exclusive gold variants of a Batsuit and three Batmobile designs tied to specific set purchases, according to the publisher.
