I never thought I’d say this, but… move over, Grand Theft Auto VI. Nintendo has just confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
Nintendo today held a Direct presentation, in which it celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda franchise. We got a few tidbits of other news related to the franchise, including the reveal of the logo for the upcoming film, and info about a LoZ exhibit in the Nintendo Museum. However, most of the presentation was given over to details about the upcoming remake.
Series producer Eiji Aonuma showed a clip of the game, featuring young Link exploring Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Field, and Hyrule Castle Town. The showcase revealed several new details, including that Link can now jump, as well as freely explore a more detailed and exceptionally beautiful world. They concluded by showing us the release date and a full trailer for the game.
That puts it squarely in the middle of the launch window for Rockstar’s juggernaut, something just about every other game on the market has studiously avoided. It’s a self-evident joke in the industry that every other game publisher wants to release a game for the year’s final quarter, but doesn’t want to compete with Grand Theft Auto VI, hence why they all seem to stack up roughly from September through mid-October.
If every there was a game that could compete with Grand Theft Auto VI in terms of franchise clout, audience enthusiasm and sheer delight, it would be the Ocarina of Time remake. How this will affect the sales of either title remains to be seen, if it does at all.
