Nexon and Blizzard Entertainment announced that registration and account linking has opened for the transfer to Nexon’s service of Overwatch on PC in South Korea.
Published by the consolidated subsidiary, Nexon Korea, the new service of Overwatch is scheduled to launch on August 12 with Overwatch’s Season 4. The timing is interesting given the layoffs at Xbox announced yesterday, as Microsoft owns Blizzard.
“Registration is now open and excitement is growing for the August 12 start of Nexon’s service of Overwatch on PC in Korea,” said Junghun Lee, President and CEO of Nexon, in a statement. “The Nexon team has been working closely with Blizzard to provide a service that enhances the Overwatch experience through Nexon’s best-in-class live operations and hyperlocalization.”
Originally released in 2016, Overwatch is one of Blizzard’s flagship franchises, with more than 100 million lifetime players worldwide. Overwatch takes place in an optimistic future and features a diverse roster of heroes and fast-paced, strategy gameplay.
“Opening registration is an exciting step forward as we approach the August launch of Nexon’s service for Overwatch on PC in Korea,” said Walter Kong, SVP, Head of Development, Live Games/Mobile of Blizzard Entertainment, in a statement. “Together with Nexon, we are proud of the high-quality, tailored experience we are building for players in Korea, and we are excited to usher in this new chapter for the Korean Overwatch community.”
