Publisher Hooded Horse announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Ubisoft and developer Unfrozen. Hooded Horse will publish the latter’s upcoming turn-based tactics title, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. The game launches in early access on PC later this year, coinciding with the series’ 30th anniversary.
Ubisoft revealed Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era last year, to be developed by Unfrozen, the fledgling studio behind strategy game Iratus: Lord of the Dead. Hooded Horse also has a background in the space, having published Manor Lords, Against the Storm and Endless Legend 2. CEO Tim Bender said in a statement, “Heroes of Might and Magic is a legendary series, one that has a place in the hearts and childhoods of many gamers. We’re honored to be teaming up with Ubisoft and Unfrozen on this project.”
Denis Fedorov, CEO of Unfrozen, said in a statement, “The entire Unfrozen team is very excited that Hooded Horse is joining the project. We firmly believe that their expertise, combined with Ubisoft’s legacy, will allow us to make Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era truly successful and introduce the game to even more fans of tactical turn-based strategies from all over the world.”
Unfrozen delayed Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era from a second quarter release to later in the year. Ubisoft, meanwhile, revealed in its most recent financial earnings report that it was providing “additional development time” to its biggest projects amidst drops in revenue and net bookings. Alain Corre, the company’s Chief Publishing Officer, said that the three companies will “reignite Heroes of Might and Magic and bring players to exciting, unexplored realms.”
