Resolution Games, a maker of XR games like Demeo, said it has named Johan Gästrin as its new chief technology officer.
Formerly the head of technology at Resolution Games and a 25-year tech veteran with experience in games and product development for companies the likes of King, H&M and others, Gästrin has been promoted to the role of CTO.
“With the shifting landscape toward spatial computing and mixed reality being a more prominent thing than ever before, we are thrilled to have Johan Gästrin’s breadth of technological prowess leading the company in these efforts,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games, in a statement. “Forging new grounds and being one of the only companies in active development on Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, and spatial computing becoming a more prominent topic on the global scale with many major hardware manufacturers entering the space, we are very exciting about the technological growth and potential in the coming months and years, and elevating Johan to CTO is a welcomed addition to the leadership team that will see us down that path.”
Gästrin has been with Resolution Games since 2021, acting as head of technology for the games studio, enabling the games teams to create leading VR/AR/MR experiences, including the studio’s seven spatial computing titles.
Those games include Game Room, Demeo, Demeo Battles, Racket Club, Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, Spatial Ops and Blaston, with several others in the works.
During this time, Gästrin has created a Shared Tech department within the company, which includes leading its proprietary technology platform “Fidelity”, as well as the Resolution Tech studio located in Linkoping. In his new role, Gästrin will oversee the company’s technology strategy and ensure it drives innovation.

“We are truly at such a pivotal time in the XR and spatial computing industry and having been a part of Resolution Games innovating on so many fronts, I am very much looking forward to helping usher in the next phase in the industry,” said Gästrin, in a statement.
Prior to joining Resolution Games, Johan’s career spanned various industries (e-commerce, healthcare, and games, to name a few) as well as positions (including everything from enterprise architect to founder and CTO).
Notably for his role with Resolution Games, Johan was the head of King’s internal game engine (Fiction Factory), where he grew it from supporting a single game (Candy Crush) to all of the successful titles at the time within the studio. Upon his departure from the company, the game engine had more than two billion unique installs across the King catalog. He also has a history with H&M – one of the world’s largest apparel sites – where he led the platform team within the company’s e-commerce division.
Founded in 2015, Resolution Games is privately held and based in Stockholm, Sweden, with offices in Austin, Texas and Linköping, Sweden.
