Twitch’s March viewership took a bit of a dip compared with January, according to StreamElements’ latest State of the Stream report. Viewers watched 1.777 billion hours of content last month, per Rainmaker.gg’s data, which is quite a bit lower than January’s 1.902 billion. Unlike February — which clocked 1.738 billion — March doesn’t have the excuse of having two fewer days.

However, according to StreamElements, this is typical for March, as it attracts less viewership than previous months. All hours combined in Q1 2024 is still higher than the same number for Q4 2023, if only by 126,000 hours, and that’s with the whole quarter having one fewer day.

Or Perry, StreamElements co-founder, said in a statement, “There were few surprises about Twitch this month since their daily hours watched drops yearly in March, and the top 10 games and streamers were the usual suspects. One notable exception was the blistering rise of Supermarket Simulator. Niche indie games rarely crack the top 20, but thanks to top streamers, including ironmouse, who dedicated 73 hours to it compared to 5 hours in February, it soared up the charts to the number 17 spot, illustrating the impact of influencers.”
Top Twitch Categories in March

As Perry stated, the top 10 for the month consists of mostly the usual suspects. Despite Perry’s noting that Supermarket Simulator drew a large amount of traffic, the game didn’t breach the top 10 of Twitch’s most-watched categories in March. It did make 15th place with 17 million hours watched, a 454% increase. However, most of the categories saw small fluctuations, between 2% and 15% going either way.
There were two exceptions to this. The first was Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which saw 88 million hours watched, a 53% viewership boost, from the PGL CS2 Major competition. The second was Overwatch 2, which saw a 33% percent drop to 28 million hours.
Top Twitch Creators in March

Several of Twitch’s top creators continue to jockey for the top slot in StreamElements’ list. In March, it was Brazilian streamer Gaules, who hit 16.3 million hours watched for the month. He outpaced the second-place finisher, KaiCenat, by a significant margin. According to StreamElements, this is because he spent more time streaming CSGO in March, and it’s his first time topping the list this year.
