The debate on “crunch time,” or forced uncompensated overtime required to finish games, exploded in the past couple of weeks after gaming veteran Alex St. John argued that game developers were wrongly making themselves out to be victims in their artistic endeavors. He was reacting to an effort by the International Game Developers Association to end uncompensated crunch and to conduct a survey that could expose the practice at game companies.
