Where to find 4 of the hardest unlockable cars in L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire vehicles

The first thing that hits you about a faithfully recreated 1947 Los Angeles is the sheer scope of it. The hot leads and clue trails of Detective Phelps' investigative career in L.A. Noire spans the urban sprawl of downtown and beyond, and the game's impressive degree of authenticity certainly extends to its fleets of cars.

Enter the nefarious "Auto Fanatic" Achievement. As part of the grueling journey towards 100 percent completion, this task has you combing the city for all 95 kinds of vehicles for later display in the glitzy Showroom section of the main menu. Each type of car – 2-door, 4-door, sports, service, and police – randomly roam the roads of L.A., but squinting at headlights for hours on end quickly becomes as tedious as those “complex” street crimes.

Thus, here are the locations of four of the most elusive autos, either during a case or while in Free Roam mode.

Chevrolet Pickup

Chevrolet Pickup

This workhouse truck is actually one of two Chevrolet Pickup models in the game — the second variation is the older 1940 make. Check the city's industrial areas, east of downtown; also, look for them puttering along the neighborhoods of the Westlake district. During the "Upon Reflection" case, nose around beside Schroeder's apartment building for a potential spawn in the parking lot there. Another one might show up in the hobo camp alley during "The White Shoe Slaying."

Nash La Fayette Convertible

Nash La Fayette Convertible

Hollywood houses this zippy sportster for the upper crust of the movie industry, but you can find one or more of these in a parking lot across the street from the Black Caesar Food Hut in "The Black Caesar Murders." If your partner's smarmy smugness threatens your sanity, keep an eye out on the street in front of the pawnbroker shop during "The Studio Secretary Murder."

Hudson Super Six

Hudson Super Six

Often seen driving around the bustling Central district, the Hudson Super Six also sits in the parking lot of Scott's Garage located on the corner of 4th and Los Angeles St. If it's not there, simply have your partner chauffeur you to a random location and back again until it shows up.

Buick Ambulance

Buick Ambulance

The sleeker sibling of the boxy Ford Ambulance, this venerable service vehicle looks like a wingless version of the lovable Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters. It's also quite rare, mostly sticking to hospitals and densely populated areas such as the west Central area on 8th between Beacon and Union. For a nearly guaranteed Ambulance, head to the back lot of the Good Samaritan Hospital on the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Lucas Ave.
