Gaming has a messaging problem, and Clinton Sparks is out to fix it.
At last month’s GamesBeat Next conference in San Francisco, Sparks sat down with GamesBeat to record an episode of the BIG Show — our new podcast built around gaming industry leaders’ candid opinions and insights. During a 30-minute discussion with GamesBeat CEO Gina Joseph, Sparks gave his unfiltered take on many of the industry’s buzziest topics, including the ongoing misconceptions about gaming within the wider world of media and entertainment.
“If you want to go past your target market, you have to learn how to market to a new target — and that’s the problem with gaming, with crypto, with anything. You keep trying to send the same message to the same audience in the same way, and not getting new results,” Sparks said on the podcast. “Like, ‘why don’t they understand us?’ No, you don’t understand them.”
To help break through the barriers surrounding gaming, Sparks said that authenticity was key — a natural statement for someone whose large and authentic personality has empowered his company, the Global Gaming League, raise millions of dollars of funding from celebrity owners like Faheem “T-Pain” Najm and Howie Mandel. He also discussed the importance of community, stressing his company’s goals of connecting cultures and uplifting underserved communities.
