The Atari 2600 Overdose Experiment: A Great Nostalgia Test

In the battle for video game supremecy, everyone has their own opinion of which is better: modern, current-gen titles or games we used to play back in the day.

One man has decided to end this discussion by playing nothing but Atari 2600 games for an entire day and giving his honest opinion on each of them. The results, while slightly predictable, are pretty damn entertaining, and the whole experience starts to seem like an exercise in torture that would make Dick Cheney proud. You can follow the action here.

The reason this experiment is great is because of how seriously he's taking it. He played each game thoroughly, and his reviews are pretty funny.

Here's his take on The Empire Strikes Back (a game I tried so hard to like just recently): "By the fortieth identical AT-AT, even blowing up AT-ATs had stopped being awesome, which makes me clinically dead for the rest of this article." I have to agree — when blowing up huge robot walkers is no longer fun, the designers have done something wrong.

Props to the author for putting up with all the blips and bleeps to deliver an entertaining look at the past.
