I have been with GamesBeat since 2012, when VentureBeat bought a small, community-focused games media site called Bitmob. I was an intern at Bitmob and carried that role over to GamesBeat.
Since then, I’ve spent most of my adult life and the entirety of my professional career at GamesBeat, eventually ending up as managing editor. Today, however, is my last day here.
Some of you might know this, but a few months ago I became a co-owner of Giant Bomb. It’s an opportunity that came suddenly and unexpectedly. Our CEO, Gina Joseph, and editorial director Dean Takahashi graciously allowed me to keep continue my role here while taking on my new responsibilities at Giant Bomb.
Well, it turns out that working two full-time jobs is hard! After months of living that life, it became clear that I had to focus my energy. My position as a co-owner of Giant Bomb gives me special responsibilities there that I want to see through.

It’s a bittersweet moment for me. GamesBeat gave me my dream job and opened up so many amazing opportunities for me. I got to interview a lot of my heroes in gaming, like Ron Gilbert, Tetsuya Nomura, Yoko Taro, and Eiji Aonuma. Heck, I even got to talk to Garfield creator Jim Davis once thanks to some mobile game launch. I got to attend industry events across the world, including our incredible shows and major showcases like E3, Gamescom, and Blizzcon.
It does feel a bit easier leaving knowing that the site is in such good hands with Gina and Dean. I’ve been so proud to see how GamesBeat has changed since going independent, and I know that they are taking the brand on the right path to success. I hope I was able to help during these early days of GamesBeat’s new era.
I want to thank Gina for giving me such an amazing home here at GamesBeat. And thank you to Dean, who I’ve worked with during all of those 13 years, for helping me learn how a true professional can thrive in this industry. I also want to shoutout Rachel Kaser and thank her for becoming such an important part of the team and for always being someone I can rely on.
Thank you to everyone at GamesBeat. I will never forget your kindness and hard work, and I look forward to finding new ways to work with you in the future! If you’re looking for me, I’ll be at Giant Bomb … or Walt Disney World.
